At AR500 Steel-Targets, we take pride in offering the highest quality shooting targets around. If you haven’t used our targets before, the product speaks for itself!

Having a great product is only half the battle. If you want to have the safest and most effective target shooting experience possible, it’s necessary to learn how to mount or hang steel shooting targets the right way.

First, we design our targets to be versatile. We want them to have many hanging/mounting options for your convenience so most of our hanging targets are designed to work with a variety of inexpensive Shepherd’s hooks which can be found at Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc.

Before you mount a steel target, it’s important that you inspect it thoroughly for damage. Any steel target that is deformed or damaged in any way can cause ricochet’s and be very hazardous to your safety.

When hanging, the targets should be loosely hung and face downward at a 20 degree angle. This allows the target face to absorb the impact of a bullet and swing back, deflecting debris to the ground below the target.

Avoiding the ricochet of bullets is essential and something you should always remember to ensure safety. Stagger multiple targets and use materials such as plywood to absorb fragments between targets. If you notice any hard objects, such as rocks or concrete sticking out of the ground be sure to remove them.

Finally, make sure you hang steel shooting targets at the proper distance. When using handgun calibers, shooters and spectators should stand a minimum distance of 10 yards away. When using a high-powered rifle, stand a minimum of 100 yards away.

Don’t skim over the importance of hanging steel shooting targets the right way! This is a necessary step to ensure maximum safety and to improve your shot. If you have any questions, we’re always here to help through every step of the process. 210-649-1771.
